OUR STORY

We’re a dark academia family-owned bookstore and lounge, offering a curated selection of books, bookish merchandise, stationary, unique gifts, a tea bar, and a small apothecary.

We began in a cozy 100-square-foot booth inside Blue Bird Antique Mall. With the passion of our reading community, we expanded into a bigger space there. Now, we’re thrilled to open our own brick-and-mortar in downtown Tyler, Texas in late Summer of 2026.

In our new location, we’re also excited to host a variety of book-related events, all made possible by the readers who’ve supported us along the way.

  • Meet Katy

    I've always dreamed of owning a bookstore and writing books. I started self-publishing in 2011, and since then I’ve written and published 8 books, including one I co-wrote with my daughter. During those publishing years, I fell in love with the book world as a whole and made many connections and lifelong friendships along the way. Somewhere through all of those chapters, the dream of owning a bookstore stayed with me. I’m so glad I finally decided to go for it. Katy's top favorite reads are Saving Noah, Forbidden, Slammed, Undeniable, Memoirs of a Geisha, and A Court of Silver Flames.

  • Meet Reyna

    Reyna is the part-time/remote Literary Liaison aka Remote Administrative Coordinator. She's a lover of reading and writing poetry. Reyna co-authored a poetry book her senior in college with her mom and loves being a part of the book community. Alchemised is her current favorite read. Reyna will be handling much of the online customer service, wholesale accounts management, bookkeeping, and other behind-the-scenes administrative work that helps keep everything running smoothly.

  • Meet Taylor

    Taylor has been with THL since 2024. She’s been an integral part of many events and so much behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything running smoothly. If you’ve bought a Blind Date with a Book from us in the past year or so, there’s a very good chance Taylor wrapped it. Taylor loves to read and would love if you asked her about The Ravenhood Series. It's one of her favorites. Taylor is our lead bookseller and assistant.

  • Meet Jade

    Jade is a lover of fantasy and sci-fi media, from books to video games to movies. He would love to be asked about his thoughts on Michael Crichton, Lord of the Rings, Dungeons & Dragons, and Final Fantasy. Some recent favorite books include The Name of the Wind, Recursion, & Borne. Fun fact, Jade has a tattoo memorializing The Hobbit as it has a special place in his heart as the book that brought back his love of reading as an adult. Jade is one of our awesome part-time booksellers and a valued extra pair of hands during our many special events.
