Welcome to The Headless Librarian, where a love for books and creativity come together to create a truly unique shopping experience.

I'm Katy and this journey began with a dream to create a space that celebrates community, the joy of reading, and the art of storytelling. I chose an unconventional path to pursue my passion for owning a bookish shop by initially opening in a 100-square-foot booth in the Blue Bird in Tyler, Texas over a year ago.

From those humble beginnings, I’ve now grown into more square footage. I'm thrilled about the transformation of the new space, with hopes of providing a unique and cozy destination for lovers of all things bookish.

Growing up, my favorite scary story was The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, the eerie tale of the Headless Horseman. That story always fascinated me. I use to read it and watched an animated version over and over. So when it came time to name my shop, I wanted something that felt really unique, a little mysterious, and tied to storytelling itself. That’s how The Headless Librarian was born.

My mascot isn’t just a headless figure, it’s a librarian whose head has been replaced by an open book. Why? Because she read so much, she quite literally read her head off. It’s a fun play on words and a tribute to those of us who get completely lost in the pages of a book.

Books have a way of transporting us, reshaping us, and if we’re lucky, making us lose our heads in the best possible way. So, if you ever find yourself so deep in a story that the world around you disappears, congratulations because you might just be a Headless Librarian too.
